The Healing Art Project
FamilyTies in collaboration with the School of Arts USM are here to spread the importance of good health and mind in families.

This project highlights the positive benefits of connecting music with mental health and well- being. Concurrently, mental illness represents a third of the global burden of disease which is on par with heart disease and stroke.

According to the World Health Organization mental health issues will be the leading cause of death among young people by 2020.

Apart from the stress of coping up with their studies and family expectations, there is also peer pressure. Being away from home, or at least spending more time away from their families, does bring a change in their cultural environment, which has its own demands, if you would want to compete, or sometimes, just to feel exist.
Another factor to look at, the increase in digital media use may have had a bigger impact on teens and young adults. With increased levels of screen-time, less people are engaging with one another face to face, less physical interactions has proven to be the additional cause to any type of imbalance in the mental well being.
